Straight answers on architecture, upgrades and performance
Most Umbraco problems are not new. Slow pages, awkward editor experiences, upgrade paths that look scary, architectures that fight the platform: I have met versions of all of them across more than 200 Umbraco sites since 2011. Consultancy is how you borrow that experience for a day instead of learning the hard way on your own project.
Architecture. Document types, compositions and the block editor decide how pleasant your site is to edit and extend for years. I review what you have, tell you what will hurt later, and show you the simpler structure that does the same job.
Upgrades. If you are on Umbraco 13, security support ends on 14 December 2026, so the question is when and how, not whether. I map the path from wherever you are (I have worked on every version from 4 through to 17) and give you an honest estimate of effort and risk. The team at Simon Antony have written up the common routes on their Umbraco migrations and upgrades page if you want the background reading first.
Performance. Most slow Umbraco sites are slow for boring, fixable reasons: unindexed queries, uncached partials, oversized images. I find the actual cause rather than guessing.
A day is £500. You send me access and a description of what hurts. I spend the day in your codebase, database and hosting, then you get a written report: what I found, what to fix first, roughly what it will cost, and what to leave alone. Every hour is tracked in Toggl and the log is shared. If the answer takes half a day, you pay for half a day.
You can act on the report yourself, hand it to your own developers, or have me do the work. There is no obligation to book me for the fixes, and I will tell you plainly if the right answer is a rebuild, a different platform, or doing nothing.
Because advice is only as good as the person giving it, and with me you know exactly who that is: writing software commercially since 1995, on Umbraco since 2011, Umbraco MVP 2026, with the Silver Partnership held directly by my company, Simplepage Ltd, trading as Simon Antony. The person you brief is the person who does the thinking.
