My day rate is £500, roughly $630, and it is flat for every engagement type: development, consultancy, rescue work and white label agency cover all cost the same. If you need ongoing help, monthly retainers start at £500 for one day a month, £950 for two days and £1,800 for four days. Fixed price work is available where the scope is genuinely fixed, such as my £8,999 plus VAT Umbraco 13 to 17 upgrade. There are no discovery fees, no account management layer and no agency overhead: you pay for a senior specialist and nothing else. US clients pay exactly the same rate as UK clients, in every state, invoiced in GBP.
I charge £500 a day, which works out at roughly $630 for US clients. That rate does not change with the type of work. A day of hands-on Umbraco development costs the same as a day of architecture review, a day of upgrade work or a day spent quietly fixing someone else's build under your agency's brand. I find that simpler and more honest than a menu of rates that all end up meaning the same thing.
If you need me regularly rather than for a one-off project, monthly retainers work out better value. Essentials is one day a month at £500, Growth is two days at £950 and Partner is four days at £1,800. Agencies tend to use Growth and Partner as white label overflow capacity; in-house teams often use Essentials as a safety net for the months when nothing goes wrong and a lifeline for the months when something does.
Some jobs have a clear enough shape to price properly in advance. The obvious one right now is the Umbraco 13 to 17 upgrade, which I offer at a fixed £8,999 plus VAT. Umbraco 13 security support ends on 14 December 2026, so that price buys certainty on both cost and deadline.

A £500 day from someone who has seen your problem many times before usually costs less overall than a cheaper day rate from someone learning on your project.
